Shinji Mikami and Suda51 Tease Potential Killer7 Sequel or Complete Edition in Candid Discussion

Shinji Mikami, the acclaimed mind behind Resident Evil and The Evil Within series, recently engaged in a conversation with Goichi Suda, also known as 'Suda51' from Grasshopper Manufacture, about the forthcoming release of Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered.

During their chat, Mikami expressed an interest in seeing a continuation of one of his studio's most cherished games. Mikami shared his realization about wanting to remain as involved as possible in game development and mentioned his hope for Suda to create a sequel to Killer7.

Suda, visibly surprised by Mikami's proposal, responded with an enthusiastic reaction. He pondered the possibility of a future Killer7 sequel or even a complete edition, although he expressed a preference for creating a complete edition first.

In a lighthearted exchange, Mikami teased that a complete edition of the initial game might be lacking in excitement, though Suda floated ideas for a sequel with titles like "Killer11" or "Killer 7: Beyond."

Nobutaka Ichiki, the project manager for Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, added that one of the playable characters in the original Killer7, Coyote Smith, had omitted dialogue. Addressing this, Mikami acknowledged that fans might appreciate a complete edition, suggesting it could be a feasible project.

Killer7 was initially released on the Nintendo GameCube and PlayStation 2 back in 2005, garnering immediate attention for its distinct cel-shaded art direction and unusual gameplay, which had the seven playable characters, known as the Smiths, navigate stages on pre-determined on-rails paths rather than having free exploration.

Despite its unconventional nature, Killer7 has maintained a loyal fan base over the years, owing to its compelling narrative, outstanding style, and superb music and sound design. With the 20th anniversary of Killer7 approaching next year, it seems an opportune time to consider releasing a complete edition for modern consoles and PC.
