Surge in Takeaways and Mobile App Usage Highlights Euro 2024 Excitement Among England Fans

On Sunday, England participated in the EURO 2024 final, narrowly missing a win against Spain. Although they didn't clinch victory, throngs of hopeful Brits gathered to support the Three Lions with high anticipation. Regardless of hosting watch parties, returning from the pub, or staying in, many were ordering their favorite takeaways for match day.

Adjust, a leading analytics and attribution company, examined the install and session trends of apps during the first few weeks of the Euro and observed a general increase in food delivery app usage. Their data revealed that food delivery app installs surged by 42% year-to-date (YTD) on the opening day of the Euro.

Fans indulged in takeaways for England’s first match against Serbia, with food delivery app installs climbing 40% above the 2024 YTD average. This match didn’t just see an uptick in installs, but also in the number of sessions. Food delivery app sessions rose by 15% YTD during the England vs Serbia match, and on the day of the England vs Slovakia game, sessions increased by 29%. This trend underscores the growing reliance on takeaways by Brits during the Euros.

It's noteworthy that the surge wasn't limited to just food delivery apps. Mobile gaming apps experienced a significant increase in users due to the excitement surrounding the competition. The most substantial growth was recorded on the Euro's first day, with sports gaming app installs skyrocketing to 454% above the 2024 YTD average. This spike in installs started the day prior to the Euro's commencement, at 78% above the 2024 YTD average, and persisted until the 15th, which saw a YTD increase of 133%.

Adjust also analyzed the installs and sessions of mobility apps, such as taxi apps, as England fans traveled various distances to watch the games with friends and family. Data showed that installs of these apps were 28% above the YTD average on the day of England’s first match against Serbia, while app sessions stayed 14% above the YTD average for the next two matches against Denmark and Slovakia.
