The Downsides of Removing Backpacks in Call of Duty: Warzone 2 Season 2

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 has recently released Season 2 with a variety of changes and updates, but not all of the changes are being welcomed with open arms. The removal of upgradable backpacks in favor of a loot-shower system has been met with criticism from the gaming community. While the new Armor Vest system has been well-received, some players are concerned about how the new loot system will affect the game, and their claim is understandable.

At the start of Call of Duty: Warzone 2, players had no choice but to pick up their items from the ground around them, and they weren't able to store any extra items. However, in the second season, Infinity Ward decided to completely change the way the game works by introducing upgradable backpacks, allowing players to select what they wanted to store. This provided additional strategic options, as they could stock up on important items such as Killstreaks, Self-Revive Kits and Armor Plates.

Unfortunately, the new system still wasn't completely accepted by the community, and in Season 2, Activision and Infinity Ward removed the backpacks entirely, replacing them with a loot-shower system. After killing an enemy, the items will spawn in a pile around the body instead of dropping a lootable bag. Unfortunately, this is leading to unexpected problems, with Reddit user Chieffelix472 posting a screenshot showing important items such as Durable Gas Masks and Killstreaks clumping together, making it hard to find them at a glance.

Complaints from the community about the RNG of finding a backpack and glitches in interacting with them have been heard. Still, instead of addressing those issues, Infinity Ward has simply removed the backpacks, resulting in the new loot showers. Many players are unhappy with this decision and are demanding it be changed, as they believe success in Warzone 2 should be based solely on skill and timing rather than pure luck.

It remains to be seen if the developers will chose to address the current issues with the loot system or if they will continue to persist with their current plan for Call of Duty: Warzone 2. Until then, players will have to make the best of the game's current state, facing the messy loot showers as they brave the new Ashika Island map and Resurgence mode.
